David Nunnery was saved when he was 24 years old. At the time, he was pursuing a master’s degree in history and was very skeptical about Christianity. As the story goes, the Lord used the woman who would eventually become his wife to prompt his search for the Savior, and God used the innocence of children telling the story of Nicodemus from John 3 to draw his attention to his need to be born again—through faith in the only One Who is mighty to save.
After some time, David and Leslie were married in 1998. They have four children, two boys and two girls, who are all growing up way too fast.
After a successful career in advertising at a local suburban newspaper group outside Atlanta, GA., David went on to run the print advertising division at a prominent sports marketing company for several years. He was eventually promoted to become a regional vice president within this organization, managing a group of colleges in addition to all the print publications.
In 2010, the Lord started to redirect his path. David took over as a volunteer president at a mission board called Worldwide Tentmakers, which was based on Act 18. The purpose of this mission board was to prepare, promote, and place self-supporting witnesses worldwide. After about a year, the mission board had grown as much as it could with him only serving part-time. Therefore, David stepped out on faith, moved from the college sports marketing world to the mission board full-time, and started searching out business opportunities that could be utilized for the Gospel.
In 2011, the Lord gave 2 opportunities to pursue business as missions and to support the work of Worldwide Tentmakers. One of the businesses God called him to start was an ESL preschool in Poland. The other was a large homeschool event company called Teach Them Diligently. The preschool in Poland has expanded to two campuses serving about 100 students at any given time and providing significant opportunity to share the Gospel with the families and through various camps in the summers. Teach Them Diligently supports Christian homeschoolers across the country with events that reach over 40,000 individuals each year. Additionally, through Teach Them Diligently, David and Leslie minister to a large membership community of homeschoolers called Teach Them Diligently 365; have written books and a homeschooling course called Heart School; and have now created Transform Journals.
Transform Journals came out of a two-year study on the power of Biblical Thanksgiving in those that follow Jesus. This study was born out of David’s own difficulties. Despite experiencing a lot of success in his own professional and personal life, David was struggling with worry and insecurity. Thanksgiving is the antidote as promised in Philippians 4 for anxiety. And, anxiety is a feeling from which no one is totally immune, but thanksgiving provides the umbrella of defense that leads to peace.
After studying the subject of Thanksgiving based in the Bible, David has come to the conclusion that Thanksgiving is meant to be central in our personal life and businesses. For those that love the Lord, Thanksgiving is the active witness of God’s gifts to us for the world to see. A thankful heart is at peace with God and others. In short, thanksgiving changes everything, and it is belief that the methods we have developed in the Transform Journals will develop the mental reflex and habit of thanksgiving in all who practice them.
